I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the creative process — the struggles, the late-night-rewriting, the panicked but excited “this character just changed everything” moments (seriously, this was Alexis in The Heritage Series)
Right now, I’m deep in writing and editing. It’s exciting, frustrating, and emotional. And I’ve realized I want to share more of that journey, not just the polished end result.
So here’s what’s changing… and what’s staying the same.
What’s Coming
I’m officially launching a Patreon for anyone who wants a front-row seat to my writing. I’ve several posts from last year on it, but honestly, I never launched it, so I am working on refreshing it now!
On Patreon, you’ll get:
- Early scenes and chapters from my current work-in-progress
- Behind-the-scenes notes on edits, character changes, and plot twists
- Book updates and writing reflections
- Opportunities to vote on character names, plot questions, etc.
This will be the place where the actual writing lives – the messy, behind-the-scenes part of the work.
What’s Staying
Don’t worry — I’m not leaving Substack or this blog.
On Substack, I’ll continue to share:
- Deaf related content
- Writing tips for accurate Deaf representation in stories
- Thoughts on books and creativity
- Resource roundups
In my Blog, I’ll continue to share:
- Deaf related content
- Writing tips for accurate Deaf representation in stories
- Thoughts on books and creativity
- Light book updates
In my Newsletter, I’ll share:
- Book and Editing Updates
- New Shop Items
- Title, Image reveals and more!
Have you signed up for my newsletter yet?!
Why Multiple Places?
Because I want to show all parts of my journey:
- Substack (and Blog) holds the teaching, thinking, and cultural information
- Patreon supports the creative, fictional worlds I’m writing
- Newsletter will have book updates, as well as updates on my shop Signs & Stories
Keeping these spaces allows each to do what it does best – while making the whole process more sustainable.
Your support, in any space, means the world. Reading, sharing, subscribing, cheering – it all helps bring these stories to life and eventually into publication.
Oh, and one more thing. I’ve officially sent my manuscript to an editor and hired an illustrator. So, the journey to publication has officially begun!
Let’s keep building stories that sign.
Happy writing (and reading)!
